GSD Earns A Rating

The Gulfport School District is proud to announce that it has earned an A rating from the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) for the 2025-2026 accountability results, recognizing the district’s strong academic performance and continued commitment to student achievement.

This year’s accountability ratings reflect a renewed emphasis on student proficiency, providing an important measure of how well students are meeting academic standards and demonstrating mastery of grade-level content.

A major catalyst behind this district-wide success was the historic performance of 28th Street Elementary School, which earned its first-ever A rating in school history. 28th Street Elementary propelled the district’s overall rating by achieving this unprecedented milestone on its own merits, relying entirely on fresh student achievement data rather than carrying over previous testing cycles.

Anchor campuses also continued to set the pace for excellence. Bayou View Elementary School once again earned the highest scores in the district while securing top-tier rankings statewide across multiple grade levels, reinforcing its reputation as a traditional powerhouse of academic achievement. Adding to the momentum, Gulfport High School, Bayou View Middle School, and Pass Road Elementary each earned an "A" rating, highlighting top-tier academic success across every grade level.

“These results are a direct reflection of our instructional strategies and the tailored support provided in every classroom,” said Dr. Lea Bellon, Assistant Superintendent. “The historic A rating at 28th Street Elementary highlights what happens when educators focus on meeting students right where they are, while the standout performance at Bayou View Elementary demonstrates the power of long-term academic consistency across grade levels.”

“We are proud of the hard work reflected in this year’s results,” added Glen East, Superintendent of the Gulfport School District. “This achievement is a reflection of our teachers’ dedication, our students’ commitment to learning, and the continued support of our families and community. From historic milestones at campuses like 28th Street Elementary to the sustained excellence at Bayou View Elementary, our school community has shown remarkable determination. We also recognize that an A rating is not a finish line. We will continue to look closely at our data and identify opportunities to help every student reach his or her highest potential.”

The Gulfport School District remains focused on providing high-quality instruction, supporting teachers and students, addressing areas of need, and ensuring that every student has access to the resources and opportunities needed for success.

As the district celebrates this recognition, it remains committed to continuous improvement and to its mission of inspiring each student to become a problem solver, lifelong learner, and productive member of society.
