Zach Rose, Director of Bands at BVMS,Assistant at GHS

Zach Rose is a native of Ohio and has just completed his 16th year teaching, all in Mississippi. Mr. Rose began his career as assistant director in Laurel, Mississippi, then served eight years in Ocean Springs and has most recently served six years as assistant director in Pascagoula. Mr. Rose has enjoyed consistent success in each district creating new performing ensembles, growing the enrollment of each program and preparing musicians for elite-level performances. Mr. Rose’s students are consistently decorated with achievements, from regional honor bands to college scholarships and national recognition. His ensembles have consistently earned superior ratings at venues across Mississippi, performing the highest quality repertoire. Mr. Rose has twice been recognized by the Gulf Coast Band Director Association as Outstanding Director of the Year for both middle school and high school achievements and has been a Teacher of the Year finalist in both Ocean Springs and Pascagoula. Mr. Rose holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from James Madison University and a Master of Music Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi. Mr. Rose resides in Ocean Springs with his wife, Gwendolyn, and their three Dachshund children - Dalton, Gambit and Finley Bell. The Roses enjoy gardening, beach days and rooting for their favorite sports teams including the Cincinnati Bengals, Reds, Ohio State Buckeyes and Auburn Tigers. The Roses are pleased to be a part of the Gulfport Band family.

Leah Tackitt, Assistant Director

Leah Tackitt graduated high school from Greene County High School in 2012. She received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and her Masters of Music Education Degree from William Carey University. Mrs. Tackitt served as the assistant band director of George County High School from July 2017- December 2019. Then she served as Director of Bands for the George County School District from December 2019 through May 2021. Mrs. Tackitt resides in Biloxi with her husband Adam Tackitt and their two dogs, Toby and Carrie. The Tackitt’s enjoy reading, taking walks with their pups, and playing video games. Mrs. Tackitt is excited to join the Gulfport Band Family and looking forward to working at Bayou View Middle School.
